In a society that praises celebrities with less-than-ideal morals, it’s very refreshing to see an intelligent celebrity who consciously wants to improve the world around her. A young woman in Hollywood who embodies these characteristics and much more is our monthly muse, the distinguished Emma Watson. At only 24 years old, she wears many hats; model, actress, scholar and ambassador.
Early in her career, she acted in one of the most successful film franchises of all time. While filming for this storied franchise and ultimately earning over $15 million, Watson honed her scholarly skills at Brown University, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in English literature. Before graduating, she was cast as a model for Burberry’s AW 2009 campaign in between filming. And to solidify her sterling fashionista reputation, she continuously graces the covers of magazines such as Vogue, Elle, Glamour, W and Interview. It’s safe to say she’s a renaissance woman after our own hearts!
If mastering acting, studying and modeling isn’t enough, Watson was recently appointed as a UN Women Goodwill Ambassador in 2014. She recently campaigned for the HeForShe initiative, which promotes equal rights and freedom for all sexes and genders. While campaigning, Watson called on men to support her initiatives in a moving speech, “I want men to take up this mantle. So their daughters, sisters and mothers can be free from prejudice but also so that their sons have permission to be vulnerable and human too—reclaim those parts of themselves they abandoned and in doing so be a more true and complete version of themselves.” Cheers to that.
