I met Ashley Feinstein at a women’s conference over a year ago and exchanged cards. It wasn’t until months later when we met up for lunch that we started a friendship and realized we could help each other out with our start-ups. I helped her on the fashion side with her favorite purse the Honeydew Sorella and she helped me with my finances (every fashion girl knows we’d rather buy clothes than pay rent!)
Ashley launched her new program called the 30 Day Money Cleanse so I had to join and see what it was all about! Not only did I save $500 in the month of July but I learned valuable spending habits and guidelines on how to reach my financial goals. I honestly thought I would never be able to save a dime with New York City’s expensive lifestyle and with most of my money going back into my company. I was able to learn little things like creating a “happiness allocation” on things that were good spending that I wanted or needed and doing away with frugal spending like my $100 Duane Reade runs on only god knows what.
I urge you all to take her program because you too can save up for that vacation you’ve always wanted to take or pay off those student loans you never thought possible! With Ashely’s help I am on track to saving over $2,000 this year and now I just have to decide what I will be spending that on A. Put that money into my business B. Take a much needed vacation or C. Go to Bergdorf’s!
Occupation: Money Coach, Founder of Knowing Your Worth
Tell us a little about you and your company: I’m a money coach and founded Knowing Your Worth with the mission of making personal finance fun, relevant and accessible to young women. I do one-on-one coaching, workshops, a 30 Day Money Cleanse program and write about personal finance topics and negotiations. We don’t always think of it this way but many of our most coveted goals need money, whether it’s funding our own lives, a new venture or a project. I’m here to make sure money doesn’t get in the way of you living the life you want!
How did you get into your profession? I have an undergraduate degree in finance and worked in the financial services industry for many years and still had no idea about personal finance. I thought, if I don’t know about this with all my finance background, then others probably don’t either so I started blogging about my personal finance journey on my blog, the Fiscal Femme. The rest is history! Taking control of my financial wellness was a transformational experience for me and it’s my mission to help others do the same.
What’s your favorite part of your job? Changing people’s lives! I get so much joy from my clients’ successes. I really feel so lucky that I get to do what I love every day. Since starting Knowing Your Worth I’ve just had this feeling that I’m doing exactly what I’m supposed to be doing. It’s an incredible opportunity.
Where do you live? I live in the Financial District in NYC but during the winter try to spend as much time as possible with my family in Florida!
Where are you from? I’m originally from Miami, Florida and grew up in Naples.
What is your favorite getaway or vacation spot? I lovethe sunshine and exploring so anytime I get to do both at once, I’m a very happy gal.
What 3 things are must have in your LCNY bag? Moisturizing lipstick for color and chapstick in one, my business cards because you never know who you are going to meet and a small pad of paper because I’m old fashioned and like to write notes, to-do lists and ideas down.
Where’s your favorite hangout spot? At home!I travel a lot and am often running around for meetings or working, so to be able to hang out at home and relax is a real treat!
Where do you like to people watch? I love sitting in a restaurant’s outside seating in the summer with a glass of wine, watching people walk by. Sounds super creepy now that I’m rereading it!
What’s your favorite restaurant? CorkBuzz! It’s an amazing wine bar with a great food menu too. I have had many birthdays there and actually got engaged there this year!
What would you not be caught dead without? A charger! I actually get caught without one all the time but my phone dies so quickly these days that I can’t go too long without one. The real problem is that I use google maps for everything and would be completely lost without it.
What are you reading right now? I was just at a conference with Anne Doyle and received her book, Powering Up! It’s a book about how America’s women achievers become women leaders and has me very amped up!
If you could live anywhere in the world where would it be? I would be the youngest snow bird and spend the warm months in New York City and the winter months in Florida. Can’t beat that!
What’s your favorite song right now? I love country music which can be pretty controversial haha but you can’t beat it outside in the summer!
What’s your guilty pleasure? Frozen desserts, particularly frozen yogurt or custard. Mmm.
If you could give one piece of advice what would it be? Get started. Early in my career I was really worried about being “perfect” and not making a mistake. I wish I took more risks and stretched my limits. Failure is important. If you aren’t failing you aren’t playing big enough.
What’s your life motto? Get uncomfortable. I’m a big fan of getting outside of your comfort zone and I try to do something that’s scary everyday and something that’s really scary at least once a week. That’s where the real results are. The cool thing is that once you do something outside your comfort zone it gets easier and easier and your comfort zone is now redefined. It’s all about growth!
Anything else we should know? I <3 my LCNY bag! I’m wearing it tonight for a wedding!
