A team member from LCNY recently went on a trip to Austin, Texas. We’ve never been there before but we fell in love! Texas is a completely different feel from NYC but it was easy to feel at home in such a beautiful city. If you are planning a trip to Austin, here are 8 things you HAVE to do:
1) Kayak on Colorado river
Hands down most exciting part of our trip was Kayaking down Colorado River. It’s such a beautiful way to see downtown Austin and great for pictures and taking in the sun!
2) Go to Whataburger
Trust us when we say that throwing away your diet for this place is worth it. Whataburger is a fast food restaurant located only in Texas, and although people from Texas might say it’s not a big deal, basically everyone else will get lost in the delicious choices that will make you drool. Weather you get chicken stripes or a burger, you won’t regret it.
3) Visit the campus of UT
The University of Texas is a great school. The campus is big but worth it to go see the “UT Tower” and to get some Longhorn apparel.
4) Shop at the Domain
The Domain is an outdoor shopping mall with everything from Niemen Marcus and Louis Vuitton to Forever 21 and H&M. The Domain also has a few restaurants. So if you are always in the shopping mood, and let’s be honest who isn’t, the domain is your place!
5) Eat at North Italia Restaurant
North is an Italian restaurant located in the Domain shopping mall. Yeah I know what you are thinking, we are from New York how can an Italian place in Texas stand out that much that we are putting it on our list? Well it’s amazing that’s why! Everything is freshly made and deliciously prepared. Our favorites – the zucca chips and the chicken pesto pasta.
6) Drink coffee and get ice cream at Mozart’s
Mozart’s is a coffee shop right on the Lake Austin. You can enjoy a nice cup of ice cream or pastry with a beautiful view of the water. They also have unlimited iced coffee… is there more to say?
7) Visit Sixth Street
Sixth Street is located in downtown Austin. It’s the entertainment area of the city aka where all the bars and cool restaurants are. For a good night out go to that area!
8) South Congress
South Congress, also known as “SoCo” is know for its shopping areas, but also an historic place to go with a great view of the Capital building. The strip has restaurants, shops, antique and vintage stores, coffee shops and more. There also a small wall that someone wrote “I love you so much” on and it’s a big thing for tourists to take pictures in front of.
9) Graffiti Wall
There’s a wall in Austin open to the public to do graffiti art and take pictures. It’s a beautiful piece of art and it makes the city even more special.
All in all, the city of Austin is a beautiful place. We loved experiencing a new city in a state we’ve never been too. We hope that if you go to these places you will enjoy them as much as we did!
